- This term (from Old English for "speech" or "talk") has a variety of meanings: (1) Revelation is God's word or message revealed through the prophets in the Old Testament and through Jesus Christ in the New Testament (see CCC 101); (2) the Scriptures as the written record of God's communication are the inspired word of God (see CCC 81); and (3) Jesus as the second person of the Trinity is the embodiment of Revelation and the Word of God par excellence.
